Never owned a Macintosh before, need some advice picking one.?
I have always had windows based machines, and am looking for a cheap way to explore what macs are all about. I have found a used system, which I will list the details below and want some advice please.
This mac machine would only be used for surfing the internet and using things like java apps online, it will not be for gaming, 3d stuff or anything of that nature, purely surfing websites and possibly playing java games online.
Review the description below and tell me if you think this would be an ideal entry level for someone that has never had one, or will this be more trouble than its worth?
Also, this system is 12 years old, and I am not worried about the age as much as I am concerned with whether or not it will work on the internet.
This listing is for a PowerMacintosh 9500/132 PowerPC tower with multiple parts. I did not include a hard drive to protect my prior information. This unit has over 12 slots for RAM and I recently spent 60 dollars on new RAM 4 different 128 meg chips, plus I had tons of extra pieces from before. On top of the four 128 MEG chips, I also included these RAM chips: 16 MB, 32MB, 8MB, 16MB, and another 8MB, plus two video RAM pieces. Here’s what else is included:
1 Keyboard
2 mouse
1 CD ROM drive (inside machine)
1 CD/CD-R drive, the white scsi drive you see in the picture
1 mac microphone
1 hard drive/CD rom plastic sleeves for sliding into place in the tower.
extra screws for hard drive/cd rom placement
1 mac joystick that can also serve as an additional mouse, originally paid over $100, when it came out
1 power supply
1 additional mac connection wire
I would suggest you get a new one so you can get more out of the features. Mac have changed a lot since the powermac. It would be more trouble than for you to buy this then just getting another windows computer. The macs did not get good until around 2001. I would suggest you try an iMac. Or you can go to that apple store and try one.
You’d probably be better off with a G3 or a G4 Mac running OS X, even better would be the latest Macs using Intel chips.
Visit the nearest Apple Store and try a Mac to get a feel for one. Ask all the questions about them to a salesperson.
